Community Kindergarten

OUR SESSIONS
The Kindergarten operates 5 days per week (Monday - Friday, 8.00am - 3.30pm).
Families are at the heart of our kindy, and we welcome parents, grandparents and caregivers to spend time with their children at the kindy.

For children aged 2 - 6 years, the sessions provide a calm happy atmosphere where they are free to develop and practice their independence, co-operation, confidence, creativity and social skills.

Our large outdoor play area provides challenges and encourages exploration. We make regular excursions to our local outdoor spaces (including the beach) to explore and grow a sense of kaitiakitanga (guardianship) of our precious natural environment.
We grow food in our gardens to share with our kindy community. We teach our tamariki how to put our food waste into our compost bins and worm bins to make "plant food" to help our gardens grow.

The teachers and kindergarten community have made a deliberate decision to not have iPads or tablets available for children to use.
We think that our children are best served in their pre-school years by exploring the real world of their environment, learning how to build good relationships and learning through play - all major focuses of our Kindergartens philosophy.
We provide balanced sessions. There is a mix of free play and structured time (mat time and eating together) to give children a sense of routine and certainty.

Learning Record
We have introduced Storypark as a secure online portfolio of your child's learning.
We also create a physical scrapbooks as a record of your child's journey at our Kindergarten. When children leave the kindergarten they are presented with their scrapbook/s that celebrate their milestones and progress over their time at kindergarten. In these books you will find your child's learning stories which are linked to our curriculum (Te Whaariki) and the teachers planning for the group and individuals. Also in these books you will find photos of those special learning moments as well as art work.
